5k Freezeout nordlending vs Steve Paul-Ambrose for the 100k
5k Freezeout, BrynKenney, Poker, poker blog March 4th, 2008The $5,000 buy in Winner Take All FreezeOut poker tournament at Pokerstars was loaded with numerous well-known online pros. Familiar names in the field included Annette ‘Annette_15′ Obrestad, Sorel ‘zangbezan24‘ Mizzi, Steve ’stevejpa’ Paul-Ambrose, Steve ‘MrSmokey1‘ Bilirakis, and Isaac ‘philivey2694′ Haxton. The stud filled field rendered the weekly $10,000 heads up event non existent. The field played the day relatively friendly and the chat was active and light. With the first place being the only prize that paid, action started fast and furious while players looked to build a lead to make a run at winning the $100,000 prize.
The first hand we see is Steve Paul-Ambrose winning a nine thousand dollar pot with two kings.

Play slowed down, and player ‘august35′ became short stacked. After picking up two tens, the player moved all in. When action got back to Bryn Kenney, he reraised and was called by ‘nordlending.’ After a K-10-x flop, Kenney put all the chips in the middle, forcing ‘nordlending’ to fold. Kenney showed the top set, which killed the hopes of ‘august35,’ who had expected to stay alive after flopping middle set.

Steve ‘MrSmokey1′ Bilarakis was quiet for the most part, up until this hand took place. Facing a raise, Isaac Haxton rearaised. Bilirakis moved all in and after the original raiser folded, Haxton snap called with two Kings. Bilirakis unfortunatly held two queens, and was sent to the rail, building Haxton’s stack.

At this point, the players stopped the tournament to look at the possibility of a chop. Paul-Ambrose offered a deal, but was shot down by ‘nordlending,’ who countered with it’s own deal. Paul-Ambrose rejected the deal, and the players decided to play out the game. After a few hands, the players got it all in preflop. ‘Nordlending’ looked to seal the deal with two Kings against Paul-Ambrose’s Ace Six of clubs. However, as it’s referred to as beind ‘Greensteined’ in the poker community, an ace on the river kept Paul-Ambrose’s chances alive.

A winner take all tournament like this is pretty tough. I like when you have multiple chances to make it into the money.
You have to take advantage of every chance you get to build your chip stack. Building a chip lead early will definitely give you an advantage.
nordlending was able to hit some cards and take down the $100,000 prize.

This was a pretty good poker tournament. When first place is the only spot that pays, you’re going to see the action get furious. We saw a couple times where they were going all in with their pocket pairs early.
I personally wouldn’t enter a tournament like this but nordlending sure likes this type of poker event.

Paul Ambrose played well, even though he didn’t win. i couldn’t imagine playing a hig stakes winner take all tournament. I must be a wuss, but alot of the reason a person wins is luck alone, and its hard to win out of that many people.
