Nenad Medic Winner of Event #1 in 2008 WSOP
Poker, WSOP June 3rd, 2008Nenad Medic takes down Event #1 for his first WSOP bracelet
352 players participated in the 2008 World series of Poker Event #1: $10,000 Pot Limit Holdem. The final table got started on the 3rd day of play and included Mike Sowers, Andy Bloch, Mike Sexton, Chris Bell, Patrik Antonius, Amit Makhija, Kathy Liebert, Phil Laak, and Nenad Medic.
Phil Laak was the first one to be eliminated at 9th place for $74k. Laak moved in with J J and failed to outdraw Nenad Medic’s A A.
Mike Sowers finished in 8th place for $99k, when he tried to steal the pot with 9 4. Sexton called him down with Q Q and the ladies held.
Patrik Antonius finished in 7th place for $124k. Antonius moved in with K 10 on a blank flop but failed to catch against Andy Bloch’s A 4. On a side note: Patrik Antonius has just been signed by Full Tilt Poker and is now a Full Tilt Pro!
Chris Bell finished in 6th place for $157k. He put all his chips in on A 3 against Nenad Medic with J J. The ace on the turn looked good for Bell, but the jack on the river sent him packin.
Amit Makhija finished in 5th place for $198k. Andy Bloch held A 7 and put Makhija all in. Makhija called with A 3, but failed to tie or outdraw his opponent.
Mike Sexton finished in 4th place for $248k. Sexton put all his chips in with A 6 and managed to hit two pair, unfortunately Kathy Liebert held a higher two pair with A 8.

Kathy Liebert finished in 3rd Place $306k. The final 3 players went all on in a huge pot. Andy Bloch held 9 9, Liebert had 6 6, and Nenad Medic had Q Q. The board came A Q 2 4 5, and Medic took down the pot.
Andy Bloch finished in 2nd place for $488k. The final hand occurred when Bloch raised preflop with 9 9. Nenad Medic called with 5 7 suited and hit middle pair with a flush draw on a flop of 8 5 4. Bloch moves all in on the overpair, Medic calls and hits the flush on the turn.
Nenad Medic became the winner of Event 1, taking home $794k and his first bracelet.
