Another new event at the WSOP made its entrance on June 6, 2008. A field of 360 players showed up for Event 11: $5,000 No-Limit Holdem Shootout. It’s essentially a tournament that consists of single-table sit and goes. Every table plays down until one last person has all the chips, then the winner of the tournament advances to the next round. Six players made the final table: Greg Mueller, Thomas Roupe, Philip Tom, Leo Wolpert, Timothy West, and Sirous Jamshidi. The action was slow to pick up, since all the players were playing very cautiously. It took more than 3 hours before the first player was knocked out.

Thomas Roupe Eliminated in 6th Place ($38,070)
The first player to go was Thomas Roupe, who went all in with 10 7 and Leo Wolpert called with A K. The board came ( 9 4 2 5 9) and Wolperts big slick held up.

Tim “Tmay420″ West Eliminated in 5th Place ($63,450)
Leo Wolpert raised it with KK and Tim West quickly moved in with 9 9. West failed to improve on a board of ( 7 4 2 J 10 ) and was the next person eliminated.

Sirous Jamshidi Eliminated in 4th Place ($118,440)
Sirous Jamshidi went all in with J J, but ran into Phillip Tom’s A A. Tom’s Aces held on a board of ( K 10 5 2 7 ) and Jamshidi would finish in 4th place.

Leo Wolpert Eliminated in 3rd Place ($187,812)
Leo Wolpert announced all in from the small blind and Greg Mueller called. Wolpert showed K 3 and Mueller showed K 2. The board came ( A Q 8 5 2 ) and Wolpert was sent to the rail when Mueller spiked a pair.

Greg Mueller finishes 2nd ($298,638)
With a shortstack, Mueller limped in with J 8. Phil Tom checked the big blind with A J. Both players check the flop ( J 9 3 ). Turn card comes ( 5 ) and Tom bets out, then Mueller decides to reraise. Tom goes all in and river lands a ( K ), giving him a pair with the better kicker.

Phil Tom Wins Event No. 11 ($477,990)
Phil Tom, a financial adviser from Nevada, would capture his first bracelet and take home a hefty prize of $477k. It was also confirmed by Phil Tom himself, that he is the father of Scott Tom, a former Absolute Poker executive involved in the AP cheating scandal (potripper).
