Two high stakes tables went off Saturday afternoon, both heads up Pot Limit Omaha games at $500/$1000. The first game was being contested with “The Great Dane of Poker” Gustav Hansen and Urindanger. The other game was played by two of the highest stake players and most recognizable names in online poker: Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan aka durrrr. Hansen and Hac Dang / Di Dang aka ‘Urindanger’ got all the chips in in a big hand in the following pot, which busted Hansen, putting ‘Urindanger’ $50,000 ahead of the curve.

That busted Ivey, who stated he would take a ten minute break from both of the tables he was sitting at. Hansen sat out at this time to take a phone call, which is when ‘Urindanger’ got up from the table. No fear, however, as his spot was quickly reserved for Dwan. Ivey never returned to face Dwan, and Hansen never returned to face Dwan. However, the $500/$1000 Pot Limit HA game got action as Ivey, Hansen, Dwan, and ‘world1969′ continued the game, giving it plenty of action. In Pot Limit Hold Em, short stacker ‘world1969′ got his twenty big blinds in against Phil Ivey.

After doubling up, ‘world1969′ sat out, a typical short stacker strategy, or possibly was just dodging playing the Omaha hands. Hansen busted against Ivey, and in an interesting move, bought in for the minimum, a typical short stacking strategy not expected from Hansen. Dwan and Hansen weren’t getting enough action, shockingly, and had to play another $500/$1000 Pot Limit HA game on another table, this time heads up. After Hansen took an early lead, Dwan quickly doubled up on the following hand.

Dwan continued to decimate Hansen in their heads up match, ending up taking over $100,000 in buy ins from the Great Dane. When Dwan was up $160,000, Hansen had enough, and sat out, focusing then only on the four handed PL HA game they both were playing with Ivey and ‘world1969′ who had returned to the table to short stack once again. Ivey continued to run the game over, and with a $30,000 bet took the following $40,000+ pot.

On the day, Gus Hansen seemed to be a pretty big loser. Dwan took most of Hansen’s money, but seemed to lose most of it to Ivey, breaking even, and making Ivey, shockingly, the big winner in the neighborhood of $300,000. Not bad for a couple of hours work.
