Durrrr takes on Gus Hansen and Phil Ivey

Posted by Poker Videos on May 31st, 2009

Tom Dwan aka Durrrr would be down against his new rival Gus Hansen at Full Tilt Poker, but would rebound and end up in the black. While rebounding against Gus Hansen, Durrrr would take on Phil Ivey and score a huge poker pot and up for the day after a 1.7 million swing.

Predictions for the 2009 40k event 2 FAIL

Posted by Poker Videos on May 30th, 2009

I was way off on my predictions for the 2009 WSOP 40k Event 2. Phil Ivey was one of the first people out and so was John Juanda. I don’t think Hac and Di Dang even played in the event and then Alec Torelli entered it. Alec told me he was going to be in the WSOP , but I had no Idea he was entering the 40k event. Lets see how this ends up, but right now I look like a huge idiot.
Looking back, I didn’t even consider live tournament players like JC tran or David Pham. Then the guy I picked to play in first didn’t even play. I had Justin Bonomo on my original list but, I think I just left him on my 50k HORSE predictions. Anyways, I hope I didn’t influence your fantasy league at Full Tilt Poker in anyway.

Here’s how the remaining ten players have been seated around Table #144:

Seat 1 — Ted Forrest
Seat 2 — Noah Schwartz
Seat 3 — Alec Torelli
Seat 4 — Isaac Haxton
Seat 5 — Greg Raymer
Seat 6 — Justin Bonomo
Seat 7 — Lex Veldhuis
Seat 8 — Dani Stern
Seat 9 — Tony G
Seat 10 — Vitaly Lunkin

I have been playing close attention the live coverage of the 40k event from Full Tilt’s new WSOP coverage page, and poker news. Right now, my friend Alec Torelli just shot into 1st place with $5,000,000 in chips! Lex Veldhuis aka RaSZi is in third and Greg Raymer went into second. Chris Moneymaker was doing well but I think he busted out before the money. Tony G has played and excellent short stack for over a day now and will make some Chip Me Up investors really happy!

I hope for saving face that my predictions for the 50k Horse event go better.

Live Coverage of the 2009 WSOP

Posted by Poker Videos on May 28th, 2009

Full Tilt Poker is doing live coverage from the 2009 World Series of Poker, they have a whole page and several blogs dedicated to it. You can see there WSOP live coverage page here. The Full Tilt series coverage has several of the top pros twitter feed as well. Andy Bloch, Jon Turner aka pearljammer, Roy Winston, and Micheal Craig are just some of the pros who will be blogging. Mike Matusow, Josh Arieh, Howard Lederer, and other Full Tilt pros have started tweeting about the 40k event 2. For the most part, I don’t like Twitter, but it’s really good to get some juicy poker gossip. I wonder if other pros will be reading tweets of players at their table to get tells on them? Will pros start intentionally tweeting disinformation to throw off their opponents? I’m just thinking ahead I guess, but I do think this tweeting will add a new aspect to the already cerebral game of poker.

2009 LIVE WSOP COVERAGE

When I read Beth Shak’s Twitters, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. The one day she was upset her limo driver had to stop and pay at the toll since he didn’t have an EZpass. She doesn’t complain much, but I found that Tweet difficult to swallow. Her Facebook is full of railbirds who want to try to get the MILF to respond to them. The other Tweets are like: “Just lost all in pre KK to AJ” “Just lost AK to AQ”. So maybe I’d like to get some juicy poker scene gossip instead of pre flop bad beat stories in NL tournaments. So bring it on! Lets hear about the cute waiter! Lets hear about that pretty dress! I’m tired of bad beat stories!
She actually is a compulsive tweeter:
Beth Shak Facebook
Every 10-30 minutes of her waking hours. She does do allot of charity events though so that is very good!

I’d really like to have someone follow Phil Ivey around an tweet while hes playing high stakes golf or shooting craps. Sort of like the Mind of Ivey but via twitter constantly. They would have to be really good luck, the opposite of William H. Macy in The Cooler. I think Barry Greenstein costs Phil Ivey 500k every time he sweats him at the craps table. BTW some lady named Pat DeMauro, just set the record for rolling dice without rolling a 7. She rolled for 4 hours and 18 minutes. She rolled the dice a total of 154 times before ending her steak. A one in 3.5 billion chance! If Ivey ever goes on a roll like that he will own Harrahs. Actually, if he just goes on a 45 minute roll he might be able to bail out the USA.

the cooler

Rafe Furst probably has the most interesting Facebook posts but only 10% of them are about poker. He is really one of the top intellectual bloggers in the world.

Mike Matusow should be interesting to follow with his insider views to the high stakes poker world. He’s always into something, but lately hes been a bit chill with his girlfriend keeping him in line. He just tweeted that hes down to 77k in the 40k event.

Keep track of all your pros chip counts, gossip, and insight at Full Tilt Poker’s new live twitter coverage of the WSOP.

Event 2 40k No Limit Holdem Event tomorrow

Posted by Poker Videos on May 27th, 2009

The much anticipated event 2 40k NL Holdem event is starting tomorrow! Who is going to win? I speculated on this a couple weeks ago and now I think I have to say Yevgeniy Timoshenko will be one or two. Will it be Phil Ivey? He is supposed to have side bets on winning a bracelet this year. Doyle Brunson posted on his Facebook that he has a fire in his belly and is ready to play poker after a hiatus.

I think the 50k Horse was replacing the main event in prestige, but wasn’t getting ratings on TV, so they devised a high buy-in NL holdem to be the main event for the Pros. They want to weed out as many donks as possible to make it less of a luck minefield.

How will Phil Hellmuth do with the still competition? Other top pros claim he can’t win in strong fields. The guy has 11 bracelets and they still call him a donk. I guess his demeanor invites attacks….

Full Tilt Poker has a fantasy league for all the events. I made my picks the other day and I’m going to complete the Omaha Hi Low and others now. Goto Full Tilt client, then click on my promotions, and then select Fantasy League.

1 Yevgeniy Timoshenko – If hes not out first he will win. This MF is sick, go look up his live and online stats!
2 Phil Ivey
3 Phil Galfond
4 Mike Watson
5 Justin Smith
6 Gus Hansen
7 Tom Dwan
8 Phil Hellmuth
9 Daniel Negreanu
10 Jon Turner
11 Kathy Leibert – She may surprise the young guns?
12 David Benefield
13 Sorel Mizzi
14 Doyle Brunson – Moved down since hes been on vacation
15 Jon Turner
16 Patrik Antonius
17 Jonathan Little
18 David Benyamine

If Phil Ivey isn’t in his mode, I place Hac or Zi Dang in his place. Maybe look for
Alexander Kostritsyn to reappear.
