gdluck wins $1 Million Guarantee event at Full Tilt Poker

Sunday saw the weekly $750k preempted by a $1 Million guaranteed event at Full Tilt Poker. 2,476 players put up $535 each to make a prize pool of $1,238,000. First place was $227,111.10 with 351 players paid.

Many of the top named Full Tilt red pros were busy with the WSOP Europe but there were still plenty of red pros on hand. Among those that made the money were Steve Yea, Nordberg, S. Gromenkova, Cyndy Violette, and Eddy Scharf. Gomenkova was the top pro, finishing in 41st.

It is rare that the top two in chips starting a final table make heads-up, but that is exactly what happened here. However, the chip position was flipped with PocketOwnage420 trailing gdluck. Gdluck had 7.2 Million to the 5 Million of Pocketownage420. The final hand of the event saw was a classic pair over pair confrontation. Gdluck held pocket aces and Pocketownage420 held pocket tens. The flop and turn helped neither player and the river brought a third ace for gdluck to give him the hand and the victory.
Neither player even asked for a deal so Pocketownage420 took home a healthy $139,398.80 and gdluck took home the winners share at $227,111.10. The final table of this event played pretty standard with the best two players facing each other for the title.
