Tom Dwan retreats back to $50/100 Pot Limit Omaha to build up his roll and effectively regroup. In poker analogies, you will often here references to military – Bullets, Ammo, war, kill, battle, etc etc. Poker is like a war or battlefield in allot of ways. Instead of tom Dwan letting his remaining soldiers (chips) die against a opponent with superior troop strength and moral, like a great general, Tom has chosen his battlefield. Durrrr has effectively retreated to a territory that he knows very well – $50/100 short handed. It’s not like there are slouches down there or anything, after all the is still high stakes poker.
Tom Dwan’s main opponent for the evening would be Andrew Brown aka Browndog19 who recently won the 25k Pot Limit Omaha heads up event at Full Tilt Poker. Durrrr would take several buy-ins off of him on 2 screens. Ontherize would join the action, and Durrrr would have no trouble building his stack. Suddenly, Viktor Blom aka Isildur1 would show up on all of Durrrr’s screens as if to say that he could not be avoided. However, I think he was just waiting for a 500/1000 game to start and would just leave. Durrrr was unaffected by Isildur1’s arrival and would go on to win more money. Browndog19 would take a couple buy-ins back from durrrr on the one screen, and durrrr would retire up for the evening.

What’s really significant about this move by Durrrr, is that hes showing humility and intelligence. Bankroll management is the second most important attribute of being a poker pro. So like Leonidas, the warrior king of Sparta, Tom Dwan is choosing his battlefield by playing in 6 handed 50/100 omaha games. He thus limits how many big pots hes going to play in, limits the hands he has to play Viktor Blom aka Isildur1 heads up, and thus minimizes his losses and maximizes his winnings. He also minimizes the times Viktor can continuation bet with nothing or bluff, because its not heads up, and there are usually 3 in a pot. Minimizing losses is the key, especially that he has signed a lucrative deal with Full Tilt Poker.
