World Series of Poker champion of the 2008 $1,000 Ladies’ No-Limit Hold’em event, Svetlana Gromenkova, was born and raised near Moscow, Russia. Her education endeavors brought her to the United States in 2002. This is when she took up residence in Brooklyn, New York and studied Psychology at New York University. While living in Russia, Gromenkova played bridge professionally. After moving to the U.S., her card interests changed from bridge to poker and she began playing poker online.
