In 2007, Annette Obrestad burst onto the live poker scene by winning the 2007 WSOP Europe Main Event and $2 Million. Known as “Annette_15″ online, she has been one of the best and most popular female players online. Now, she has a new place to call home. Full Tilt Poker has announced the signing of Annette Obrestad into their stable of red pros. Annette joins Tom “durrrr” Dwan as Full Tilt Poker is looking to capitalize on the new superstars that have emerged during the online poker era.
Obrestad started her poker career several years ago online after seeing an online poker ad during a bowling tournament on Television. She won her initial bankroll of $9 via an online freeroll tournament, and from that point has built her bankroll to Millions. Obrestad has never made a deposit online at any website that she has played at.
After her 2007 WSOP Europe win, Obrestad became the face of poker internationally and was touted as one in a long line of young gun champions that have begun to spring up. She had one problem in that she was still just 19 years old and could not legally play poker in many U.S. states, including Nevada.
Since winning the WSOP Europe Main Event, Obrestad has an EPT runner up finish in Dublin and a preliminary event win at the 2010 Aussie Millions. She also finished 7th in the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event, good for over $161k. Obrestad finally turned 21 last year, and as such, this is the first year she has really been able to play on the U.S. tournament circuit. So far she has three final tables in preliminaries at the WPT World Poker Classic and a 9th place finish in the 2010 NBC National Heads-Up Championship.
This will be the first year that Obrestad will be eligible to compete at the World Series of Poker and many are interested to see how this Norwegian will do against the massive fields and incredibly stiff competition that the WSOP brings. In the meantime, she will join a stable of pros on Full Tilt that include some of the biggest names in poker including Phil Ivey, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Jennifer Harman, Cyndy Violette, and Erik Seidel.
To celebrate the signing of Obrestad to the red pro stable, she will be hosting the FTOPS Main Event on May 2nd. The FTOPS Main Event will have a guaranteed prize pool of $3 Million and is one of the most sought after titles in online poker.
Full Tilt has shown their commitment to adding pros from all eras to their stable and the singing of Annette Obrestad is a reaffirmation that the face of poker is indeed a young face. At just 21, Obrestad is poised to set the world ablaze with her aggressive play. Will she rise to the superstardom that everyone expects or will she become just another former bracelet winner. Time will tell, but in the meantime you can play with her and the other red pros at Full Tilt Poker.
