Here is a glimpse of what high stakes poker of the future may be like…

The year is 2017. Online poker is now legal and controlled by Harrah’s. People are playing online with very advanced web-cams. The true high stakes players are playing in casinos still and have huge endorsements from major corporations like Budweiser and Heineken. In the big game, they are playing on Pokertek. All high stakes games are televised in HDTV online on Joost. There are one hundred thousand people watching on average, and several million at peak times. Poker has replaced Baseball as Americas favorite pastime. There is also online rooms that are for poker bots only. People will be creating artificial intelligence bots like Poki and wagering on them like dog fights. Omaha PL high and Omaha hi low will exceed texas holdem in popularity. Duece to seven lowball will also be huge. The $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event at the W.S.O.P will be the main event.

At the table is Paul Wasicka, Nam Le, Patrik Antonius, David Benyamine, Daniel Negreanu,
Justin Smith (boostedj), Tom Dwan (durrrr), Brain Townsend (sbrugby), Phil Ivey and Todd Brunson. Patrik Antonius will have won back to back H.O.R.S.E Events and will be the all time money winner at the W.S.O.P.. David Benyamine will be representing France when Poker is an Olympic Sport. Well, maybe it won’t be an Olympic sport, but there will be some sort of official tournament that the championships will be hosted in different cities and Medals for the country will be the prize. No woman will have won the H.O.R.S.E. or the NL Holdem Main Event. Justin Smith AKA BoostedJ will have a car collection rivaling Jay Leno. Gus Hansen will be struggling to get endorsements. Phil Ivey will have 3 more bracelets only. Phil Hellmuth will be the highest paid poker player and have 14 bracelets and a WPT title. He will be dropping in on the big game from time to time and have his own Channel on the web like JustinTV. In fact all the players in th big game will be wearing cameras on their head like JustinTV except there will be high security in the poker room preventing cheating. Players will be wearing sophisticated sunglasses with built in poker notes. They might look at a player on the table and in the Head Up display on their lenses will appear player notes of the player. This is because the microchip in their glasses is loaded with a facial recognition application. The notes will be entered manually on the Pokertek table and
the glasses will communicate via blue tooth.

The future is hard to see. The next great player might be spawned by XBOX 360. The next Doyle Brunson may be playing right now on XBOX! I don’t think anyone will impact the game of poker the way Doyle Brunson has. His intuition is better than any poker bot or math genius. Hopefully he will still be alive in 2017 and in THE BIG GAME.
