Posted by Poker Videos on February 25th, 2011Many of you recently watched episode 2 of the online poker series The Micros. At the end, you may have heard Tommy refer to poker blog post from Tommy Angelo. If so, many of you went, who? For those of you that may not be familiar with Mr. Angelo, read on to learn more about him.
Tommy Angelo didn’t start out as a poker pro. In fact, he started out as a musician, where he spent most of the 80’s playing country and rock and roll. It wasn’t until around 1990 that Angelo became a poker professional. Years later, Angelo started to write articles for Poker Digest Magazine, Bluff, and Pokerpages.com.
This ultimately led to him writing his first book on poker titled Elements of Poker. The book was released in 2007 after he spent a bit over a year writing it. Angelo states on his blog that when he got his first check for writing about poker in 1999, he felt that it wasn’t fair because he is making money for doing something he enjoys so much.
In addition to his writing, Angelo also is a renowned poker coach. Some of his students have included Jay Rosenkrantz, David Benefield, and Phil Galfond screen name OMGClayAiken. At present, Angelo is working on his next book entitled “Painless Poker.”
Angelo focuses primarily on cash games, and does not have much of a history in tournaments. If you check out the archives at sites such as PokerPages.com, you will find archives to many of his blogs. Some of the information may seem dated, but many of the concepts still apply to the modern game.

Interview with Kevmath mod from Two Plus Two
Posted by Poker Videos on November 24th, 2010For over a decade now, a mysterious figure roamed the online poker news boards and message boards. Known simply as Kevmath, Kevin Mathers built a reputation for himself as one of the go to guys in for poker information. Known mostly for his work on 2+2 forums, recently the ever-elusive blogger finally revealed himself to the poker world. He first corporea appearance came in a skype interview with Tatjana Pasalic and then later on This Week in Poker. James Guill (@compncards) recently had a chance to talk to @kevmath.
Compncards: Tell us a little about yourself.
Kevmath: I’m a middle aged nerd. That’s as little as I’m going.
Compncards: So when did you accept poker as your personal savior?
Kevmath: Late 90’s, after stumbling into the newsgroup.rec.gambling.poker
Compncards: Tell us how you got started with 2+2.
Kevmath: After RPG imploded, I eventually started posting on 2+2. Got more involved in poker when Live at the Bike started streaming in 2005. The rest is history.
Compncards: Favorite poker game? If Holdem, what is your second favorite?
Kevmath: Holdem, 2nd is Omaha Hi/Lo.
Compncards: Is it true you are the love child of Bill Gates and the Numa Numa guy from the internet?
Kevmath: More like Bryan Micon and Jimmy Fricke.
Compncards: Hottest female poker pro and why?
Kevmath: Liv Boeree, because she makes astrophysics sexy.
Compncards: Favorite poker player to watch?
Kevmath: Ivey
Compncards: For those that have been under a rock and haven’t watched TWIP, what made you step out from behind the computer screen into the “real world?”
Kevmath: It was more the interview I did with Tatjana Pasalic that I did before TWIP, which is why I appeared on video for TWIP. Figured that if I really wanted to be a part of the “poker media”, I needed to get myself out from behind the computer and do so.
Compncards: If you could improve one thing in the poker world, what would it be?
Kevmath: Legalized and regulated poker in the US and worldwide, and for all members of the poker media to be appropriately compensated when this happens.
In regards to Kevmath’s involvement with Live at the Bike, he mentioned that he was blogging on 2+2 about the game and that as time went on, they producers would send him information to post on the forum. In time, Kevmath became a moderator on the forum and is easily the most recognized face on the site.
Kevmath stated that the primary reason he did the interviews with Pasilic and TWIP was that he desired to finally step out from the virtual poker world and become a part of the poker media. In the past, Kevmath worked in the past with PokerNews as a recapper and as a blogger on Pokerati, but a regular gig was what he was shooting for. That finally became a reality when Bluff Magazine hired Kevmath in an editorial capacity shortly after his TWIP interview. His first live gig was the 2010 WSOP Main Event final table where Jonathan Duhamel defeated the youngest final table in history to become the current World Champion.
Kevmath has been a respected member of the poker media for year, even when he wasn’t getting paid for it. Hopefully we will continue to see more of Kevmath in live events now that he has the gig with bluff. One thing is for certain in that this “middle-aged nerd” will continue to dazzle the online poker world with his mad poker knowledge.
