Gilbert Arenas has been suspended indefinitely

Washington Wizards’ NBA superstar, Gilbert Arenas, may have played his last professional basketball game.

The story begins aboard a Washington Wizard’s charter flight heading home from Phoenix on December 19th. It was here that Arenas and teammate, Javaris Crittenton, entered into a typical game of what was thought to be friendly, high stakes poker. Two days later, in their home locker room, Arenas allegedly threatened Crittenton by pulling three guns, placing them on a chair by Crittenton’s locker and telling Crittenton to “pick one”. Arenas effort to intimidate his teammate was replied to by Crittenton replying that he had a gun of his own. It was reported that at one point in time, the players had guns drawn on each other but there were no shots fired. All this potentially violent drama was allegedly triggered by a $25,000 gambling debt Arenas incurred during that December 19th flight. High stakes poker play is nothing new to Arenas who is known for bragging about his poker play with teammates and online. The New York Post reports that his exploits include:

* Playing for tens of thousands of dollars aboard the team jet.
* Dashing off to the locker room during halftime to play online poker.
* Using the $103 per diem that Wizards give him when the team travels as buy in money for the high stakes poker matches.
* Cleaning former teammate – and current Knick – Larry Hughes out of $17,000.
* Taking $57,000 from another teammate whom Arenas declined to identify, and $5,000 off Dallas forward Drew Gooden.
* Claiming at least 10 victories in poker tournaments among teammates.
* Boasting that he spends $5,000 per month on living expenses, but his poker earnings covered all the costs during the 2006 season.

However, as the old saying goes…it’s all fun and games until someone “loses an eye” (or is it “pulls a gun”?). Shortly after the incident, poor judgment raised it’s weary head again as Arena re-ignited his Twitter account tweeting that NBA Commissioner, “[David] Stern is mean” and then Arenas goes on to stand in the middle of a pre-game circle of his teammates and made finger-gun gestures pretending to shoot all of them as they all fell down laughing. Perhaps the Washington Wizards should change their name to the Washington Morons??

Despite his recent troubles with guns, Gilbert Arenas pretended to shoot his Wizards teammates before Tuesday’s win over the 76ers.

Arena said initially, the entire episode was a “misguided effort to play a joke” and has since apologized publicly to his teammates, his fans and the NBA for his lack of judgment. As a result of his actions, Arenas has been suspended indefinitely, without pay pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA. At this point, an investigation is under way and a grand jury is involved. There have not been any charges filed to date.

It will be interesting to see what happens as the investigation moves forward. However, one thing is certain, we have not seen the last of Gilbert Arenas.

2009 November 9 poker update

Posted by Poker Videos on October 10th, 2009

The 2009 November 9 final table will take place November 7th -10th. I wanted to do a little post to see where the final 9 players stand right now and who they are signed with, and what they have done since July. I’ve also included the odds of each individual winning the main event.

Here are the current chips counts of the final nine:
Seat 1: Darvin Moon – 58,930,000
Seat 2: James Akenhead – 6,800,000
Seat 3: Phil Ivey – 9,765,000
Seat 4: Kevin Schaffel – 12,390,000
Seat 5: Steven Begleiter – 29,885,000
Seat 6: Eric Buchman – 34,800,000
Seat 7: Joe Cada – 13,215,000
Seat 8: Antoine Saout – 9,500,000
Seat 9: Jeff Shulman – 19,580,000

Darvin Moon has a commanding chip lead and is favored to win the event. Darvin is an amateur player with little TV final table experience. However, his demeanor is cool as ice, and really seems like he is not intimidated by press coverage or the amount of money on the line.

Darvin Moon’s odds of winning the 2009 WSOP are 4.5 to 1
so if you bet $100.00 you will win $350.00 profit. Darvin is not signed by any room yet.

James Akenhead – Recently finished 9th in the 2009 WSOPE main event bring in $110,000.00. James is a very worthy tournament player who is capable of taking this tournament if he doubles up early. He’s almost in the same position as Kelly Kim last year considering everyone started with more chips this year. James is sponsored by Full Tilt Poker.

James Akenhead’s odds of winning the 2009 WSOP are 18 to 1

Phil Ivey has been competing in the highest cash games in the world and has been appearing on Poker After Dark The Cash Game. Phil is no stranger to final tables and large sums of cash. Phil plans on resting before the November event. Phil Ivey is sponsored by Full Tilt Poker. Phil is up over 1.5 million last week alone on Full Tilt.

Phil Ivey’s odds of winning the 2009 WSOP is 7.2 to 1.

Kevin Schaffel just finished second in a World Poker Tour main event at the 2009 Legends of Poker, Los Angeles winning a cool $471,000.00. This gives Kevin a little added confidence heading into the final 9.

Kevin Schaffel’s odds of winning the main event are 16 to 1. Kevin Shaffel is signed by Pokerstars.

Steven Begleiter’s odds of winning the 2009 main event are 7 to 1.

Eric Buchman is the second largest stack at the final table. Eric hasn’t really done anything since July unless hes done it online and I can’t find it.

Eric Buchman’s odds of winning the 2009 WSOP main evet are 5.4 to 1. Eric Buchman is signed with Pokerstars.

Joe Cada has a below ave stack going into the final table and his odds are 16 to 1.

Antoine Saout has 3 cashes since July, and one was in the main event of the WSOPE which is a truly amazing accomplishment.

Antoine Saout’s odds of winning the 2009 WSOP main event are 20 to 1 since he is a short stack. Antoine is signed with Everest.

Jeff Shulman – Jeff Shulman did well in some online tournies but thats about it since July. Jeff’s father won the 2009 WSOPE Europe. If Jeff was to win the main event it would be the greatest father/son accomplishment in poker for sure.

Jeff Shulman’s odds to win the WSOP main event are 7.8 to 1. Jeff Shulman runs Cardplayer.
