5k Freezeout at Pokerstars March 30th 2008

Posted by Poker Videos on March 30th, 2008

We’re back once again with the 5k Freezeout for March 30th. The event held many big names this week, including Steve Billirakis ‘MrSmokey1′, Barry Greenstein ‘barrg1′, Sorel Mizzi ‘zangbezan24′, Daniel Alaei ‘steamraise‘, and Brian Hastings ‘$tinger 88′. As always, it was a winner take all format, maxing out at twenty people for a first place prize of $100,000. Barry Greenstein’s appearance in the event was intriguing while it lasted, although it wasn’t very long as Barry Greenstein found himself the first one out of the tournament. Danny Ryan ‘The__D___RY’ and Sorel Mizzi also joined the rail before the final table. Hastings went out eleventh to bubble the final table. The first big hand of the final table saw Billirakis lose a big hand to player biggboss120.

Only a few hands later, Spinella said goodbye to the tournament itself as he moved in with a suited seven four and couldn’t hold back Daniel Alaei’s King Queen. A river ten meant third place and no money for Spinella.

The play from there was mostly preflop. Heads up action started slowly. Alaei slowly but surely chipped his way up to being exactly even within one hour of heads up play. Alaei then pulled out to a bigger and bigger lead with virtually no show downs. Alaei built himself to one point having a 2:1 chip lead over van Til. 2:1 was quickly 4:1 as Alaei continued to bully van Til around with bets and raises and only a couple show downs. It didn’t long before Alaei got all the money in the middle with the nut flush draw against the two pair of van Til. Alaei caught the diamond and won the tournament for a smooth $100,000 as there was never any discussion of a chop.

5k Freezeout 3/16/08 at Pokerstars

Posted by Poker Videos on March 19th, 2008

As always, the Sunday $5,000 freezeout took place on PokerStars. Dani Stern ’supernova9′ and Dario ‘Dariominieri‘ Minieri were two of the big names that didn’t make the final table. Once again, the 5k freezeout event sold out at $100,000 with 20 entrants. The final table this week included some new faces to the event as well as a few regulars. ‘Sir_winalot9′ and ‘LukeFromB13′ were new faces in the recent weeks, while Peter Jetten ‘Apathy123′, Sorel Mizzi ‘zangbezan24′, and Bryn Kenney ‘BrynKenney’ were familiar faces to the final table at the event. The normal preflop play ruled early, but the pot didn’t remain small for long, and action quickly picked up with numerous players being eliminated early in the final table as they all chased a stack big enough to take down the $100,000 winner take all prize. The first elimation took place when ‘bigegypt‘ got all the money in with Ace King against Peter Jetten’s pocket eights. Jetten held for the first elimination of the final table..

The winner take all structure makes for an interesting period at this point in the tournament. Folding to move up the pay scale does not exist, which makes for very aggressive play as players try to build a stack to win it all. It’s in action here as ‘BOKPOWER’ gets all his money in with a flush draw against the King Queen of ‘Sir-winalot9.’

More players tried to accumulate chips. Not long after ‘BOKPOWER’ was eliminated, ‘e1mdopp’ but an all in reraise in preflop with the king ten of hearts. Peter Jetten thought about a call for a while, and finally did so, with an ace eight. Jetten held, and eliminated the third player from the final table.

Bryn Kenney found himself getting short, and moved all in on the button. Much to his dismay, ‘LukeFromB13′ woke up in the big blind with two jacks. Kenney failed to improve, and lost the hand and fell short of the title once again.

5k Freezout Chris Moorman aka Moorman1

Posted by Poker Videos on March 16th, 2008

The $5k winner take all freeze out once again filled up today, maxing out at 20 participants for a first place prize of $100,000. An astonishing five players made the final table this week that were also at last weeks final table includig ‘nordlending,’ Matts Iremark ‘quzzo’, Bryn Kenney ‘BrynKenney’, ‘muchbetter,’ and Steve Billirakis ‘MrSmokey1′. The play was typical of what you would expect from the biggest games in the internet community… preflop. Raises and three bets came nearly every hand leaving flops early in the final table to be very minimal. Early in the final table, last weeks winner ‘nordlending’ chipped up by eliminating ‘TheMuppet’ with AK vs. J8. Play didn’t slow down and raises and reraises continued to be prevelant as play went on. The first monster hand took place when Matts ‘quzzo’ Iremark and ‘busto_soon’ got all the money in on a queen high board in the following hand.

Baron took the big lead and used it to his advantage, raising nearly every other hand as play was down to only five players. Baron used this strategy to increa his stack by another five thousand to owning 40% of the chips in the tournament. ‘Muchbetter’ began losing chips and was slowly becoming the shortest stack at the table, in the following hand we see the player put all of its tournament chips at risk by moving all in preflop with pocketfives, but lost to Chris Moorman’s pocket sixes, ending it’s tournament.

Down to four handed, it appeared as though it was Baron’s turn to continue raising. Nothing changes as baron was involved in a big hand on the next hand off the deck (figurativly) in a very interesting hand. Baron called a big bet on the turn with second pair and a flush draw. After not improving, Baron checked his third pair on the river to Chris Moorman, who eventually checked himself, surprisingly giving the hand to Baron.

A deal was struck where Chris ‘Moorman1′ Moorman would take $30,000 and Thierry ‘BOKPOWER’ Van Den Berg would receive $45,000 and the winner would play for an additional $25,000 prize and play continued. Moorman took his lead and in about a half hour ran it to a 3:1 lead, and then had 4/5 of the chips in play, leaving Van Den Berg with only $17,000. Moorman continued his chip up by small pot strategy and continued wearing Van Den berg out of chips before a double up boosted him back to $24,000. 5k Freezeout nordlending vs Steve Paul-Ambrose for the 100k

Posted by Poker Videos on March 4th, 2008

The $5,000 buy in Winner Take All FreezeOut poker tournament at Pokerstars was loaded with numerous well-known online pros. Familiar names in the field included Annette ‘Annette_15′ Obrestad, Sorel ‘zangbezan24‘ Mizzi, Steve ’stevejpa’ Paul-Ambrose, Steve ‘MrSmokey1‘ Bilirakis, and Isaac ‘philivey2694′ Haxton. The stud filled field rendered the weekly $10,000 heads up event non existent. The field played the day relatively friendly and the chat was active and light. With the first place being the only prize that paid, action started fast and furious while players looked to build a lead to make a run at winning the $100,000 prize.

The first hand we see is Steve Paul-Ambrose winning a nine thousand dollar pot with two kings.

In the very next hand, Haxton picked up Ace King and got all the money in against Glen ‘Choron’ Chorny, who showed a dominated hand of Ace Queen. Chorny bricked, and his tournament was over. Winning the two big hands in a row set Haxton up for a possible run to the tournament crown.

Play slowed down, and player ‘august35′ became short stacked. After picking up two tens, the player moved all in. When action got back to Bryn Kenney, he reraised and was called by ‘nordlending.’ After a K-10-x flop, Kenney put all the chips in the middle, forcing ‘nordlending’ to fold. Kenney showed the top set, which killed the hopes of ‘august35,’ who had expected to stay alive after flopping middle set.

Steve ‘MrSmokey1′ Bilarakis was quiet for the most part, up until this hand took place. Facing a raise, Isaac Haxton rearaised. Bilirakis moved all in and after the original raiser folded, Haxton snap called with two Kings. Bilirakis unfortunatly held two queens, and was sent to the rail, building Haxton’s stack.

After ‘F4ith+1’s elimination, Apathy123 followed, leaving ‘nordlending,’ Steve ’stevejpa’ Paul-Ambrose, Isaac ‘philivey2694′ Haxton, and ‘muchbetter’ left in the tournament. Haxton soon found himself short, and in a blind vs. blind situation, got all his money in the middle with two nines against Steve Paul-Ambrose and his A-10 offsuit.

At this point, with three left in the tournament, Paul-Ambrose and ‘muchbetter’ were ready to look at the numbers of a possible chop. However, with three quarters of the chips in play, ‘nordlending’ was not willing. However, the next hand between Paul-Ambrose and ‘muchbetter’ changed the players mind.

At this point, the players stopped the tournament to look at the possibility of a chop. Paul-Ambrose offered a deal, but was shot down by ‘nordlending,’ who countered with it’s own deal. Paul-Ambrose rejected the deal, and the players decided to play out the game. After a few hands, the players got it all in preflop. ‘Nordlending’ looked to seal the deal with two Kings against Paul-Ambrose’s Ace Six of clubs. However, as it’s referred to as beind ‘Greensteined’ in the poker community, an ace on the river kept Paul-Ambrose’s chances alive.
