2009 50k H.o.r.s.e preview

Posted by Poker Videos on April 10th, 2009

The 2009 50k HORSE event is sure to be a thriller. You have top online players like Justin Smith aka boosted J playing mixed limit games daily, top pros like Howard Lederer playing again, and you have players like Chau Giang who have been playing many hands online in recent weeks. Doyle Brunson will most likely be trying to win the Chip Reese trophy in honor of Chip and his Casey Reese who both passed away. Chip Reese won the first ever 50k Horse event and died shortly there after. The trophy for the event was named after Chip Reese to honor the legend in the most prestigious poker event in the world. So I can see Doyle and Chau Giang both trying to honor Chip by winning the event.

The David Chip Reese Trophy
The David

If someone stakes Archie Karas, I would think he would make the money if not the final table. I don’t think Tom Dwan is fluent in enough of the games to be a contender in the 2009 50k Horse even though he did well last year. Tom Dwan is wired to play NL Holdem or PL Omaha not limit right now. If Erik Lindgren is on he may do a repeat final table. Micon and Interceptor (who the f is he)have been doing really well in the Sunday Night HORSE at Full Tilt but thats $200.00 tourny not 50k. Plus, I don’t think they have the bankroll to enter. I do foresee Micon just missing the final table in the smaller Horse events or getting 7th or 8th place. Yuval Bronshtein aka yuvee04 could make the final table but I don;t think he has the 50k buy in either unless hes in someones stable. Archie Karas is just wired to play in such an event, but he has tendency to be very loose towards the money because of his gambling nature. David Benyamine has the ability to take it down, but I think hes been on bad streak lately.

I’m going to speculate on the final 2 tables of the 50k Horse:
1. Doyle Brunson aka Texdolly – If Doyle is on he will take it down this year.
2. Justin Smith aKa BoostedJ -Boosted J has been practicing religiously for months of High Stakes Online Mixed Games, if Doyle is off then I peg Justing to win the 50k Horse.
3. Justin Bonomo
4. Phil Ivey – I kept changing Huck and Phil for 4rth place so I’m going to stick with my instincts. If hes not doing well in the other events I’m going to post and retract him from 4rht before the HORSE tournament starts.
5. David Benyamine aka Mrb2uson – David is going to have to play like he was last year in cash games to finish 5th or better. If not I think he’ll be on of the first out.
6. Jon Turner aka Pearljammer – The consummate MTT player Pearljammer will be up high in this event.
7. Eli Elezra- Constantly playing poker online and live.
8. Howard Lederer – Howard gave up most of his work at Full Tilt Poker and has been playing online in the HEROS game. I have him in 8th because his attitude changes towards final tables in WSOP. However, he has been practicing mixed games for months, and IMO it’s for the purpose of winning this event.
9. Katja Thater – Her limit razz and mixed games could get her to the final table. Lets see!
10. Patrik Antonius – Has been playing way too much OMAHA HI to be in tip top shape to take it down
11. Daniel Negreanu – Has been playing too much low stakes and might screw up his game.
12. Scotty Nguyen – Don’t count Scotty out with his big Cali Horse win. Scotty might even defend his title.
13. Huck Seed – Coming off Heads Up championship win
14. Erik Lindgren – Depends on how the beginning of the WSOP goes for him
15. David Oppenheim – If his high stake stud game pulls him away from the pack, he could make final table of take the whole thing down. For now I have him at 15
16. Andy Bloch – Never count Andy out to win this, hes one of the best HORSE MTT players in the world if not the best.
——– alternate
17. Chau Giang – If the young internet players get beat, place Chau in 9th or 3rd.
18. Alexander Kravchenko – Maybe 6th place.

I have to gather more info as to who is playing in the 2009 HORSE 50k and I’ll make some changes. For now I have my money on TexDolly to take the trophy to the Reese family.

Scotty Nguyen apology for his actions in the 50k H.O.R.S.E. Event

Posted by Poker Videos on August 24th, 2008

Some of you may have watched the most prestigious poker event this past Tuesday. The event is a 50k entry fee H.O.R.S.E. tournament where to win it, you must defeat the best players in the world at Holdem, Omaha hi low, Razz, Stud, and Stud eight or better, at slow blind intervals over 5 days. Scotty was swearing at one of the players and swearing at the waiter who was taking too much time bringing his Michelob which they had to cover with electrical tape to not piss off the sponsors.

Scotty Nguyen made a public apology for his actions that was posted on Cardplayer and Two Plus Two.

I’m not posting the lengthy apology, but I’ll show you a snippet:
I would like to ask for understanding of what really took place. Keep in mind this was a five day event, with an almost fourteen hour final table that was reduced to two hours of air time including all the commercial breaks.

People have to understand that poker is a business and that Scotty is only human and is playing for 2 million dollars. Scotty does deserve respect for winning this considering he is who I regard as the most under estimated and under rated players in poker. Let us also remember that Scotty Nguyen donated 50k the widow and unborn baby of a WPT cameraman Paul Hannum.

2007 WSOP $50k H.O.R.S.E. Event

Posted by Poker Videos on June 25th, 2007

This Event is no doubt what decides who the best “Poker” player in the world is. Eli Elezra is in first right now with about $550k, and Phil Ivey and Barry Greenstein are in 2nd and 3rd. These players and others that are in the top ten of this tournament play in the “Big Game”. The 50k buy in eliminates the idoits like that big asshole blowing guy that made it deep in the 2005 WSOP. And if the guy is a rich idoit donk, he will have to outplay tables that have little or no weak spots and beat 8 guys at the main forms of poker that they play everyday. On top of that the tournament is limit and has a good blind structure and starting chips.

Chip Reese won last year and is in tenth place right now defending his title. He beat Andy Bloch last year after getting lucky a few times against him. Although he was chip leader when the final table started.

Freddy Deeb has also slipped into the top ten while I’ve been writing this!
