Jonathan Duhamel Wins 2010 WSOP Main Event

Jonathan Duhamel Wins World Series of Poker

The battle for the most coveted prize in all of poker has come to an end after a wait of several months. Jonathon Duhamel and John Racener met Monday night to finish off the biggest tournament in poker. Duhamel entered play with 188,950,000 in chips after taking a monster pot off Joseph Cheong three handed, Duhamel entered play a 6:1 leader over John Racener and his 30,650,000 in chips.

After starting play, both players seemed to be content playing small ball. Racener was limping his button and Duhamel had slowed his game from three handed. Duhamel still applied pressure, opening most buttons and putting Racener in situations where he had to make decisions for his entire chip stack. Racener folded most pots until he had been grinded down to just around 18 million in chips.

In the first big pot of the evening, Jonathon Duhamel shoved out of the small blind. Racener quickly called and had found himself sitting on two queens, going up against the K4 off of Duhamel. The flop came a rainbow J-8-6, leaving Duhamel dead to a king. It didn’t come with the deuce on the turn or the seven on the river, giving Duhamel the double up he needed.

Unfortunately for Racener, it was not the double up he had been hoping for as he was only up to 36,000,000 in chips, just above what he started the night with. The next twenty or so hands that followed saw Duhamel continue with his strategy of chipping away in small pots, forcing Racener to put a significant amount of his stack in the pot or lay his hand down. By the time the first break of the night rolled around, Racener was back down to 22,550,000 to Duhamel’s 197,050,000.

The big all in came with Duhamel showing AJ and Racener calling with the K8 of diamonds. The place went into a frenzy as people realized they were on the verge of witnessing history. The flop came 9-4-4 with only one diamond. The turn brought the six of clubs, leaving Racener on his last leg. The river card came up a blank, as the five of clubs fell, making Jonathon Duhamel the main event champion for 2010. For his winnings, he will take home $8,944310. John Racener finishes second and takes home $5,545,955 for his efforts.
