Theo Tran learned to play poker when he was 13 years old, betting baseball cards, dimes, or quarters with friends. He played with guys who were several years older than him and they often won his allowance money. David Benyamine wins Event 37: World Championship Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better

This years’ $10K World Championship Omaha Hi-Low (Event 37) kicked off with 235 players and featured a prizepool of $2.2 million. Half of the players at the final table were Full Tilt Poker pros and the rest were players who have had live tournament successes. The final 9 players were Eugene Katchalov, Greg Jamison, David Benyamine, Mike ‘The Mouth’ Matusow, David Chiu, Toto Leonidas, Ram Vaswani, Jason Gray, Hieu ‘Tony’ Ma. David Benyamine dominated much of the final table with a chip lead and finally sealed the deal after five hours of play.

Tony Ma Eliminated in 9th Place ($55,225)
Tony Ma is the first one to be eliminated from the final table after commiting his last chips on the turn against Toto Leonidas, who scoops both high and low pots.

David Chiu Eliminated in 8th Place ($71,792)
David Chiu was out in 8th place when he called the rest of his chips preflop against Greg Jamison’s raise.

Greg Jamison ( A 10 K K ) for an Ace high straight

Ram Vaswani Eliminated in 7th Place ($88,360)
Ram Vaswani commited himself after getting into a preflop raising war against Greg Jamison. Vaswani’s two pair with no possible low draw was outmatched by Jamison’s low wrap hand.

Eugene Katchalov finds himself all in against Jason Gray, but Gray scoops both pots

Jason Gray ( A 2 3 J ) for Two pair, jacks and threes, and (A-2-3-4-6) low

Mike Matusow Eliminated in 5th Place ($138,062)
After chipping away fast, Mike Matusow went all in on a flop against Toto Leonidas. Matusow would miss his low draw andn be out in 5th place.

Toto Leonidas ( A K 7 6 ) for Two pair, Aces and kings

Toto Leonidas Eliminated in 4th Place ($171,197)
After Toto Leonidas went all in from the big blind, David Benyamine and Jason Gray called. It was checked down to the river and Benyamine turned up the second nut flush, knocking out Leonidas.

Jason Gray Eliminated in 3rd Place ($209,855)
Jason Gray was eventually pot commited on a flop after David Benyamine bet out. Gray missed his low draw and didn’t catch a high hand, sending him out in 3rd place

Greg Jamison Eliminated in 2nd Place ($331,350)
David Benyamine wore down Greg Jamison’s chip stack until finally Jamison was commited preflop to his hand.

David Benyamine is a professional poker player with more than 1.7 million dollars in tournament cashes and 2 Word Poker Tour titles. He takes home $535,687 for 1st place and his first gold bracelet.

Rob Hollink takes down Event #30, $10,000 World Championship Limit Holdem

This years $10k World Championship Limit Holdem was expected to have less players than last years event. Only 143 players showd up initially, with more joining after the start of the tournament. It ended up with 218 players, short in comparison to the 243 player field of 2007. The prize pool reached $2 million with almost half a million dollars paying out at first place ($496,931). The final table got underway after two days and lasted at least 7 hours.

Chris Vitch is Eliminated (Ninth Place, $51,230)
Christ Vitch moved his last chips in on ( Q 9 ) and was called by Aaron Katz, who held ( 3 8 )
Board came ( K 7 4 2 8 ) and Katz would spike a pair on the river to knockout Vitch

Cy Jassinowsky Eliminated in 8th Place ($66,599)
Andy Bloch raised from the button, Rob Hollink reraised from the small blind, Tommy Hang made it 4 bets, and Cy Jassinowsky would call all in. Bloch folded but Hollink called.
Flop came ( K 6 9 ) and Tommy bet out, prompting Rob to fold
Cy showed ace high ( A 2 ) and Tommy showed pocket queens ( Q Q )
Turn and river blanked a five and seven ( 5 7 ) and Cy finished in 8th place

Andy Bloch
Is Eliminated (7th Place, $81,968)
Andy Bloch raised his last chips into the pot with ( J 3 ) and was called by Rob Hollink with ( 9 8 )
Board came ( A 10 2 7 8 ) giving Rob a pair on the river and knocking out Andy in 7th place

Brock Parker Is Eliminated (6th Place, $102,460)
Jerrod Ankenman raised and Brock Parker reraised for the rest of his chips.
Brock showed ( Q 8 ) and was trailing Ankenman’s ( A 9 )
Board came ( 5 10 5 7 4 ) and Brock was out in 6th place

J.C. Tran Has Been Eliminated (5th Place, $128,075)
J.C.Tran raised and Rob Hollink called.
Board came ( Q 7 3 ) all spades and Rob bet out
J.C. calls and turn comes ( K ) spades
Rob bets out again and J.C. calls all in
River comes ( K ) diamond and Rob showed a ( J ) spade for the flush, while J.C. mucks and finishes in 5th place

Aaron Katz Is Eliminated (4th place, $158,813)
Jerrod Ankenman raised and both Aaron Katz, who is all in, and Rob Hollink call.
Board comes ( 4 A 10 5 J ) and somehow Ankenman’s queen high managed to beat Aaron’s hand and send him out in 4th place
Tommy Hang
Tommy Hang is Eliminated (3rd place, $194,674)
Tommy Hang raised from the button and Rob Hollink reraised. Tommy called all in with ( 9 8 ) against Rob’s ( K Q )
Board came ( 7 8 3 Q J ) giving Rob top pair and sending Tommy out in 3rd place
Jerrod Ankenman
Jerrod Ankenman is Eliminated (2nd place, $307,380)
Rob Hollink would cripple Jerrod Ankenman and put him all in after 32 hands.
Jerrod turned over ( 10 7 ) and Rob showed ( A 5 )
Board came ( 4 A 5 ) giving Rob top two pair
Turn came a ( 3 ) giving Jerrod a few outs for a straight
River blanks a ( Q ) and Jerrod is out in 2nd place

Rob Hollink Wins the $10,000 Limit Hold’em World Championship ($496,931)
Rob Hollink is a professional poker player from the Netherlands. He has 2.8 million dollars in tournament cashes to date, including a European Poker Tour title. By winning this event, he has become the first person from the Netherlands to win a WSOP bracelet.

Sebastian Ruthenberg wins Event 33, $5K World championship Seven Card Stud Hi-Low.

On June 17, 2008, Event 33 got underway at the World Series of Poker. 261 entrants bought into the $5,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better tournament, which had a prize pool of $1,226,700. Howard Lederer finished in 9th, just one seat short of the final table. The 8 final players who made it:

With only 60K left in chips, Bob Beveridge commited himself on 4th street against Marcel Luske.
Luske had a pair of fives with a seven low: ( A 2 5 5 6 7 8 )
Beveredge showed ace high with an eight low ( A 4 5 6 8 9 K )
Beveridge could not win either high or low pot and was the first player out of the final table at 8th place

Steve Sung Eliminated in 7th Place ($46,001)
Steve Sung would get all his chips in by seventh street against Annie Duke
Duke had a pair of kings and six low ( A 2 3 4 6 K K )
Sung mucked ( 7 6 7 K ) and was out in 7th place

Alessio Isaia Eliminated in 6th Place ($58,268)
Sebastian Ruthenberg had two pair, Aces and deuces, and a seven low ( A A 2 2 4 5 7 )
Alessio Isaia had ( A 4 4 5 7 7 8 ) two pair, fours and sevens, and an eight low, hitting neither pot and finishing in 6th place

Annie Duke Eliminated in 5th Place ($73,602)
Annie Duke was in big trouble when she commited herself to holed pocket tens against Chris Ferguson’s holed pocket kings
Ferguson made two pair, Kings and Jacks, and no low ( 3 7 9 J J K K )
Duke had just a pair of tens with no low ( A 2 5 8 9 10 10 ) and was out in 5th place

Marcel Luske Eliminated in 4th Place ($95,069)
Marcel Luske would end his run at 4th place when his pair of fives and no low( A 5 5 8 9 10 J ) was beaten by Bob Lauria’s pair of sevens and eight low ( A 2 3 7 7 8 Q )
Bob Lauria
Bob Lauria Eliminated in 3rd Place ($125,737)
Bob Lauria was down to his last chips and commited himself to trip eights on 3rd street against Chris Ferguson
Ferguson turned over a full house, tens full of kings ( 10 10 10 K K 8 2 )
Lauria could not improve the trip eights and was out in 3rd place

Chris Ferguson Eliminated in 2nd Place ($202,406)
Down to his last few chips, Ferguson went all in on a pair of Aces ( A A 3 4 5 9 J ), which failed to hold against Sebastian Ruthenberg’s two pair, sevens and fours ( 2 4 4 6 7 7 Q ). Ferguson finished in 2nd place and would just narrowly miss his shot at a sixth bracelet.

Sebastian Ruthenberg Wins Event #33, $5,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo World Championship ($328,756)
Sebastian Ruthenberg is a 24 year old poker player from Germany. Prior to this event, he held $580,000 in live tournament winnings since June 2006. After several days of playing in a field heavily filled with pros, then going heads up against Chris Ferguson for more than 3 hours, Ruthenberg managed to come out the winner, taking home $328K for first prize and his first gold bracelet.
