While players such as durrrr and Isildur1 have been garnering a lot of the attention from online railbirds lately, a player that has begun to rise up in the ranks is postflopaction, also known as Alexander Kostritsyn.

Kostritsyn hails from Moscow, Russia and has been playing poker for about five years. Until recently, Kostritsyn has been known more for his live tournament exploits than for his online accomplishments. In January 2008, Kostritsyn came out of nowhere to take down the Aussie Millions Main Event. He outlasted storied pro Erik Seidel to take the title and $1.45 Million in prize money.

A few months later, Kostritsyn went on a six cash run at the 2008 World Series of Poker. He finished 17th in the $10,000 PLO World Championship, 11th in the $5,000 PLO Event, and made the final table of the $10,000 Seven Card Stud World Championship. He finished 3rd in that event, good for $163,372. Kostritsyn also cased in the $10,000 Omaha 8 or Better World Championship and finished 84th in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

The 2009 Aussie Millions also proved memorable for Kostritsyn as he took down the 10k HORSE event, outlast a final table that included Lee Nelson, Jeff Madsen, and Chris Ferguson. Later in 2009, Kostritsyn cashed in the WSOP Main Event for the 2nd straight year. So far, Kostristyn has $1.98 Million in live tournament winnings.

More recently, Kostritsyn has been making a name for himself online as well. In 2009, he finished 2nd in the $2,100 8-Game event at the World Championships of
Online Poker, good for over $75,000. He also took down the Monday $1k on Full Tilt Poker in May 2009, good for $89,000.

Cash games have not been as kind to Kostritsyn until recently. He finished down for 2009, down about $250,000. However, 2010 has been good for the Russian so far. He has been on a tear since the beginning of the year, and according to HighStakesDb.com, he is currently up over $2.5 Million over 999 session. Nearly $1 Million of those winning came in the first week of February, when he took $993k over the span of 6,000 hands.

Odds are that Kostritsyn will not be able to sustain the massive run he has put together so far this year. However, one thing is for certain. This live tournament star has come into his own in the online game and has begun to shape himself as one of the better all-around players in the game.
