Bryan Micon aka The Icon
Bryan Micon aka The Icon
What does the ability to do the Thriller dance and 63rd place at the 2006 WSOP Main Event get you? If you are Bryan Micon, it gets you a cult following. Known as Bryan ‘The Icon” Micon or simply Micon, this professional player has developed quite the cult following. Always considering him a “true degenerate” Micon’s laid back personality and desire of non-conformity has endeared himself to a section of the poker populace.
Besides his 2006 Main Event run, Micon is probably most famous for founding NeverWinPoker.com. The site was best described by Bluff Magazine’s website as ” an in-your-face exchange of candid opinion and commentary.” The forums on the website were a no holds barred open forum where users were allowed to post openly on just about anything. Eventually, the site was purchased by Tony G. He retained Micon and company for a while but Micon left with Todd Witteles in November 2009 to form DonkdownPoker.com.
Micon broke out onto the live poker scene in 2006 with a four cash performance at the World Series of Poker. He made the final table of the $2,000 NL Event, finishing 9th. He then proceeded to go on a deep run in the Main Event where he received a lot of on camera time courtesy of ESPN. Most fans from that season remember Micon’s “Thriller Dance.”
Other than a 15th place finish in a $1,500 donakament in the 2008 WSOP, Micon did not take down another significant score until 2009. By this point, Micon had established himself online as quite a HORSE player, placing and winning many small tournaments. Micon would make his 2nd career WSOP final table in the $1,500 HORSE Event. Ultimately, Micon finished 4th for $69,505.
In the realm of online poker, Micon can be regularly seen playing on both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker under the name of Micon. So far, his largest online score has been for $13,000 after taking down a $50 NL event in October of 2009. However, if you look at his profile, you will notice a long string of cashes and small tournament victories. Micon can truly be considered a low to mid-stakes tournament grinder.
While Micon has finishes in all forms of poker, he tends to split his time between NL Holdem and HORSE. Upon closer examination, it appears that his HORSE prowess may have begun to exceed his NL prowess. Unfortunately, all the money is still in NL tournaments.
For his live tournament career, Micon has over $320,000 in earnings, with most coming at the World Series of Poker. Online, he has nearly $400,000 in tournament earnings.
While this may not be at the same astronomical heights as the Phil Ivey’s and Daniel Negreanu’s of the world, it is still better than 90% of the “pro” players out there today.
