Eugene Katachalov Biography
Name: Eugene Katachalov
Alias: MyRabbiFoo and E.Katachalov
Age: 30
Date of Birth: February 21, 1981
Born in: Kiev, Ukraine
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY, USA
Born in the Ukraine, his family moved to Brooklyn, New York, USA when Eugene was 10 years old. In order to ease the transition, Eugene was enrolled into a Russian speaking Jewish school with his cousin. Although he was age appropriate for the 5th grade, he entered into the 7th, and struggled for a time to adjust. Two years later, his parents enrolled him into public school which enabled him to reenter the 7th grade with other children his age. He flourished there.
In middle school and high school, Eugene remained very active in sports. He competed with the basketball and tennis teams and joined the bowling team as well. After being accepted to the Stern School of Business at New York University, he went on to achieve two degrees. His first degree was in Finance and the other in international business.
His first job out of college was day trading, by choice. On the side, he played poker with friends. Eventually, he found that Poker started to cover the bills while day trading was barely a dent in the cost of living. In time, he turned to the poker tables and found his career there.
He began with online poker and officially declared himself a professional player in 2003 while continuing to work his day job. By 2004, a friend of his talked him into entering the Five Diamond World Poker Classic preliminary in Las Vegas, and he placed 5th. With the same friend encouraging him and helping to cover the entrance fee, he continued this winning streak by competing the World Poker Tour Main Event. Eugene cashed there to the tune of 27 thousand dollars, which when combined with the 48 thousand dollars from the preliminary event gave him the confidence to focus on poker more diligently. Quickly Eugene Katachalov was making a name for himself and beginning his climb to the top of the poker world.
In the midst of his climb, he continued to do well with day trading but started to feel trapped by working for a large company. The more he proved his research and knowledge was paying off, the more trapped he felt. Finally, he added one more goal to his list: to open his own trading firm. To do so, he was going to need capital, and his poker game was how he would get that.
2007 became a momentous year for Eugene Katachalov. Starting with the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Tour Classic, he won every event he competed in at the Belliago that year. This included the 119, 000 dollars from the Bellagio Cup. He then followed this winning streak up with a Full Tilt Tournament win to the tune of 133 thousand dollars. This gave him the security he and his partner required to open the small hedge fund.
His winning ways continued to turn heads. He competed in the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), winning a bracelet in the effort. Through the years and many cashes, he’s had a few significant highlights. He won the World Poker Tour (WPT) title and more than 2.5 million dollars after beating out the likes of David Ulliott and Raymond Davis. He’s competed in the High Roller event on the European Poker Tour (EPT) London, cashing in third place. Most recently he entered the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller Event and won, bringing home yet another major cash to add to his already growing tally.
This professional day trader and poker professional has lived a double life his entire career. Applying his analytical mind and his competitive edge, he’s gotten ahead in everything he’s touched. Being noticed, PokerStars finally signed him to a full sponsorship as a member of Team PokerStars. Without a doubt, and with or without sponsorship, this man has proven hard work and focus will lead to success.
