Tom Dwan AKA durrrr issues Million Dollar Challenge

Posted by Poker Videos on January 7th, 2009

Tom Dwan aka Durrrr on Full Tilt Poker has issued a Million Dollar Challenge to any online poker player that thinks they can beat him. There is some criteria for the challenger to adhere to… The stakes must be no lower than 200/400, must be 4 tables at once, and must
be over 50k hands.

“I’m making this heads-up challenge to the world. Anyone can accept. Four tables, minimum of $200/$400, and I’ll put up $1.5 million to their $500,000. We play 50,000 hands minimum and if they end up a dollar after rake they keep the side money or whatever. So basically, if you and I played and you won a dollar, you would get my $1.5 million and if I won a dollar I would win your $500,000.

“So I’m giving a million dollars free if anyone thinks they can do it.”
Bluff Magazine

Here are some other rules:
1) 200-400min (nl/plo obv)
2) can change tables anytime eff stacks are >250bb
3) have to reload when stacks are <75bb
4) $$ won in the challenge is kept obv (if i win 750k in poker, i get that PLUS your 500k- if i lose 750k in poker you get 2.25m total).
5) same stakes the whole time
6) not open to phil galfond

hmm probly some other stuff but im out of it b/c i jus got owned @ some scrabble. I was gonna think up official 'terms' and post em or something, but thought i had another week or two b4 it became public.

Since he has issued the heads up poker challenge, Phil Ivey has phoned him and accepted the challenge. Tom Dwan agreed but said he has to warm up for him by playing some other players in the challenge first. The first player to take him on will be David Benyamine AKA Mr B 2 U Son and then Patrik Antonius has also accepted the challenge. Tom Dwan does not have this invitation open to Phil Galfond aka OmgClayaiken but may feel as though he has an advantage over Phil Ivey because Phil is not used to playing 4 games of heads up at once.
Phil Ivey could not resist the $1.5 million to 500k odds and is eager to play him.

Chat on Full Tilt Poker from Patrik Antonius:
Ziigmund: pate
Patrik Antonius: im here
Ziigmund: are you going to take on durr?
Patrik Antonius: yes
Ziigmund: when?
Patrik Antonius: i guess david is first
Ziigmund: ok
Ziigmund: nl or plo?
Patrik Antonius: does not matter
Patrik Antonius: but i guess plo
Ziigmund: yeah

In my opinion three players could accept and stake each other. They would only be allowed to play to 500k in losses. If one player wins then they are even, if two win – they
would be up 500k or more each depending on what losses Tom Dwan would stop at. It’s not known right now what happens if one side is up or down over the set money totals.
I guess it would be unethical if Tom Dwan places a disclaimer in the rules preventing this. Plus I don’t think Phil Ivey, Patrik, or David would care to do this.
I’m talking about other players that might challenge Durrrr in the future.

David Benyamine is no longer appearing in red at Full Tilt Poker. He he lose his sponsorship or did he quit?
David Benyamine is still playing at Full Tilt but no longer in red and no FTP avatar. This is quite unusual being that he plays so many screens and is one of the main players there.

Mid September High Stakes poker at Full Tilt in review

Posted by Poker Videos on September 27th, 2008

Action was fast and furious this past week on Full Tilt poker. More than 20 pots went over a quarter million with 3 pots passing the $500,000 mark. Let’s take a look at some of the top hands.

Tom Dwan aka durrrr won a $314,818 pot off of Phil Ivey and La Key U at the Acres 6 handed PLO table on Sept 12th. On a flop of 7c-8s-2d, Dwan bet $4,250. La Key U raised to $18,350. Ivey made the call. Dwan then reraised to $79,000. La Key U only had $10,542 and was all in. Ivey made the call as well.

The turn fell the 6s and Dwan moved all in for $61,164. Ivey made the call. Dwan showed 8h-3h-8c-Jc for a set of eights. Ivey showed 9s-As-Th-Jd for a straight and the nut flush draw. La Key U showed 7s-10c-Qd-8d for two pair and a gutshot straight draw. The river card paired the board with the 6c giving Dwan eights full of sixes and the pot.

Dwan also had another huge pot earlier in the day against patatino on the 12th at the $500-$1000 NL 6 handed RailHeaven table. On the turn, with the board showing 4s-As-3c-4h, Dwan moved all in for $233,158.50 and was called by patatino for $115,200. At this point the pot sat at $394,500. Durrrr showed 6d-5s for the open ended straight draw, and patatino showed Ac-9c for top pair. Disaster struck for patatino on the river when the 7d hit, giving durrrr the win and the massive pot.

Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond took two pots over $300k on the 13th. First, in RailHeaven, Galfond was betting every street in a hand against patatino. By the river, the pot stood at $210,698. On a board of Js-4c-8d-3s-2d, Galfond moved all in for $255,587. Patatino only had $60,436 and made the call. Galfond showed As-Ad and patatino mucked. Galfond took the pot worth $331,570.

A few hours later Dwan and Galfond tangled at the same table. By the turn, the pot sat at $30,297. With the board showing Jc-4s-7c-5h, Dwan bet out $26,200. Patatino was involved in the hand until this point, but chose to fold. Galfond then raised to $108,900. Dwan went into the tank for a bit before moving all-in for $143,643.30. Galfond made the call. Dwan showed As-Jd for top pair, while Galfond showed 6s-8s for the nut straight. Dwan was drawing dead at this point, making the 10d on the river meaningless. Galfond took down the pot of $317,583.60.

There were three pots during the week that exceeded the $500,000 mark. Interestingly enough, all three pots occurred on September 12th, and two within 30 minutes of each other. All three hands were nl holdem hands and all three occurred at the RailHeaven table.

First Hac “trex313” Dang got involved in a pot between Tom “Durrr” Dwan, patatino, and regista8. Preflop, Dang raised to 3,500 and was called by all three opponents. The flop fell 5c-Js-9d and it was checked around to Dang, who bet out $11,200. Only Dwan made the call. The turn fell the 2d and Dang check-called a bet of $24,600 from Dwan. The river fell the Qc and Dang checked again to durrrr. Durrrr moved all-in for $341,262. Dang tanked for a bit, before finally calling. Dang only had $218,191. Durrrr showed Jh-Jd for a set of jacks but a set of jacks were no good. Dang showed Qh-Qd for a set of queens and won the pot of $521,979.

The second largest pot of the week involved another set over set situation between Patrik Antonius and David Benyamine. On the turn with the board showing 6c-Js-10s-Ac, Benyamine checked to Antonius, who bet out $54,000 into a pot of 88,000. Benyamine raised to $312,000 and after tanking for a while, Antonius called all in for $203,874. Benyamine showed Ah-Ad for a set of aces while Antonius showed 6d-6s for a set of sixes. The river card of the Qh did not bring the miracle one outer and Benyamine took down the pot of $604,247.

Patatino took the honors for the largest pot of the week in a hand against Hac “trex313” Dang. About 30 minutes after Dang won a pot for $521,979, Dang got into a raising war against patatino. On a flop of 10d-6d-8c, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond bet $9,200. Patatino thought for a bit and then raised to $35,000. Dang also tanked for a bit before raising to $88,000. Galfond bowed out. Patatino then came over the top $302,080 all in. Dang called for $204,766.50. Patatino showed Qd-2d for a flush draw. Dang showed Jd-9d for an open ended straight draw and a weaker flush draw. Patatino paired his kicker when the 2h fell on the turn. Dang was unable to complete his straight when the 4c fell on the river. Patatino took the pot totaling $609,733 with a simple pair of deuces.
