Di Dang Vs Gus Hansen Aug 2009

Posted by Poker Videos on August 28th, 2009

Di Dang aka urindanger heard that Gus Hansen was giving away money. As a result, he decided to become the First National Bank of Gus and took his shots at Hansen in a couple $300-$600 PLO tables and a $200 – $400 PLO table.

Dang takes Hansen's stack

First, on the High Bluff $300-$600 PLO table, Dang took Hansen’s first buy-in to the tune of a $62,195 pot. Hansen moved in with top pair and a flush draw. Dang flopped two pair and had a gutshot straight draw. Dang hit his draw to take down the pot.

It only took 3 hands to take another buy-in off Hansen. All of the money went in on the flop with Hansen having flopped two pair and Dang holding a flush draw and pair of fives. Dang made trips on the turn and filled up on the river to take another 30k off Hansen.

While this was going on, the two tangled on the Crazy Action $300-$600 table. As was the case on the other table, Dang was taking buy-ins here too. The first came after Hansen shoved with a pair of aces and w-in from Hansen.

Hansen then dropped his next buy-in on the very next hand. Granted, this time he was ahead after the flop. He shoved with a gutshot straight draw, a flush draw and a pair. Dang called with a wrap straight draw. Dang hit his draw on the river to take another buy-in off Hansen.

Hansen would win about $24k back from Dang before leaving the table, but it did not make up for the $120k in buy-ins already lost prior.

Phil Gafond aka OMGClayAiken also decided to hop onto the Gus Hansen money train. He took a $34k pot off Hansen after picking off a river bluff from Hansen.

Patrik Antonius Yum Yum

However, the big hand of the day went to Patrik Antonius. On the Big Dipper $200-$400 PLO table, Antonius received a $78k gift from Hansen. All the money went in on the turn with Hansen holding a wheel draw, flush draw and a pair of aces. Antonius already held a straight and held his own flush draw. A heart on the river gave Antonius a flush and a $158,542.50 pot. Now let’s hope he doesn’t turn around and give it over to durrrr later.

Gus Hansen very well may have to change his nickname to the “poker philanthropist” with all the money he has given away today.

Predictions for 40k NL Holdem Event in 2009 WSOP

Posted by Poker Videos on April 16th, 2009

Its going to be tough to predict the results for the Event 2 in the 2009 WSOP 40k Event. This is especially hard because the online high stakes players have mostly been playing Omaha Hi and not NL Holdem. I’m going to try to predict the final table based on a number of factors. I would put Tom Dwan at number one, but he plays heads up poker for the most part, and may become impatient playing live 9 handed.
David Benefield has a good chance to take this down and I suspect hes going to put up the 40k. Doyle Brunson will totally be in his comfort zone. Phil Ivey is favored to win this event in my humble opinion. I’m going to post who I think is going to be in the top 18 and maybe make some changes as we lead up to the tourny.

Here is my prediction for 40k Event 2 2009 WSOP I can’t pick between Phil Ivey and John Juanda
1 Phil Ivey – John Juanda
2 Jonathan Little
3 Phil Galfond
4 Mike Watson
5 Justin Smith
6 Doyle Brunson
7 Tom Dwan
8 Phil Hellmuth
9 Daniel Negreanu
10 Andy Bloch
11 Kathy Leibert
12 David Benefield
13 Sorel Mizzi
14 Gus Hansen
15 Jon Turner
16 Patrik Antonius
17 David Benyamine
18

I don’t know, I could be totally off, but it depends on how Phil Ivey is feeling the day of the tournament. I depends on Jon Turner hitting flops and not getting unlucky with his premium hands. I sort of have feeling John Juanda is going to take this down with his aggression. Doyle Brunson will be the most comfortable since hes worth so much and plays live daily. He is also the most patient besides Jon Turner. Phil Hellmuth will be wanting to prove everyone wrong and that he can beat a strong field. I don’t think Daniel’s small ball crap will work with a strong field.
Personally I think small ball is the easiest system to beat.

One thing is for sure, I think its going to be a nice prize pool and make for very good TV. Once I get the roster, I’m going to make a post as the tournament starts , so I can make substitutions.

Hansen sat back with Galfond and the games began to pick back up. While these games started becoming a game of money trading, there was a quick trend of Galfond taking money off the heads up table with Gus Hansen. Hansen was making up for , it, though, and busted Di Dang at a HA table with the following pot.

Galfond continued to beat Hansen heads up, and was up $80,000 when Hansen, with his will unbroken, bought back in for more. After a little more grinding, Galfond stopped the match, up about $75,000. Di Dang got some revenge on Hansen in the following hand where he used the ever so powerful all in to make Hansen lay his hand down.

This lit up the chat when player ‘tsarrast’ said the following:

tsarrast: one day gus ull realize the truth vs me
Dealer: tsarrast has 15 seconds left to act
tsarrast: its the sickest

Gus Hansen, who has been around the internet poker world for some time, responded with this:
Gus Hansen: I know it is kind’a weird that you play so bad and get so lucky

Still frusterated, ‘tssarat’ came back with:
tsarrast: talk all the #&@% u want, ur 4/5 today in allins, and my guess is overall
ur behind in equity
jarheadz28 (Observer): say hi to your fans!!
tsarrast: skill game right?

Hansen ended the conversation quickly with:
Gus Hansen: not skill game for you – crying game

Hansen went back to playing Galfond heads up, but his luck did not change as he lost a buy in on the following hand to Hansen himself.

Hansen finally quit Galfond for good and allowed himself to focus on the other two tables. This was it for the action on the day. To put it mathematically: Galfond > Hansen > Field. While Phil Galfond bullied the tables from start to finish, especially his heads up match with Gus Hansen. However, Hansen played well against the rest of the field and took money there, almost allowing him to break even for the day.
